Locks & the Three Bears, and Hansel & Gretel
LOS ANGELES, CA – June 17,
2004 – Geffen Playhouse Producing Director Gilbert Cates proudly
announces three special performances of Classic Fairytales, presented
by GeffenÕs family theater series ÒThe Saturday Scene.Ó An upbeat and
educational adaptation of three classic childrenÕs stories – Little
Red Riding Hood, Goldie Locks & the Three Bears, and Hansel
& Gretel – Classic Fairytales will be performed at the
GeffenÕs new interim home, the Brentwood Theatre, on June 19, June 26 and July
10, from 11 a.m. to noon. Admission is $6 for adults and $2 for children. Following the performance, kids and
their families are invited to meet the actors and enjoy refreshments and

CookinÕ at the Cookery: the
Music and Times of Alberta Hunter
Kicking
off the first Geffen Playhouse production at the newly refurbished Brentwood
Theatre is this summerÕs hottest musical, CookinÕ at the Cookery: the Music
and Times of Alberta Hunter, starring Tony
Award-winning actress and singer Ann Duquesnay and celebrated Broadway
performer Montego Glover. A dynamite combination of vocal forces, both
Duquesnay and Glover have starred in past productions of CookinÕ at the
Cookery, joining for the first time in the
Geffen Playhouse production this summer. CookinÕ at the Cookery began in previews at the Brentwood Theatre on Tuesday,
June 15 and will run through Sunday, August 1, with an official press opening
on Wednesday, June 23, 2004.
Geffen Playhouse 2004/2005 Season
Geffen PlayhouseÕs 2004/2005 season will begin with the West Coast Premiere of the 2003 Tony Award winner for Best Play, Take Me Out. A world premiere adaptation of Lerner & LoeweÕs Paint Your Wagon follows. Then Geffen will present two Pulitzer Prize winning plays – You CanÕt Take It With You and I Am My Own Wife (also the winner of two 2004 Tony Awards for Best Play and Best Actor). The upcoming 2004/2005 season is the first in the GeffenÕs decade long pledge to theater made in America.
The Geffen Playhouse has broken
ground on its $17 million renovation and expansion. During the expected 15
months of construction, all Geffen Playhouse productions will be presented at
the historic Brentwood Theatre, located on the
grounds of the Veterans Administration at 11301 Wilshire Boulevard, building
