Position Summary

The Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles, CA seeks a Resident A1 to join the Production Department, starting immediately. The Geffen produces in two theaters, the mainstage Gil Cates Theater (LORT B) and studio space Audrey Skirball Kenis Theater (LORT D). This position is responsible for serving as the A1 for all Mainstage productions, and assisting in the installation and load out of each show’s sound system. In addition to the Geffen’s regular production season, this position will also provide support as needed for events as directed. This position reports to the Sound Supervisor and the Production Manager.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Serve as the A1 for all Mainstage productions, which may include live and line mixing.
  • Assist in the installation, maintenance, and load out of all sound systems.
  • Maintain all Geffen-owned equipment and inventories, including documentation to be shared with visiting designers.
  • Assist the Sound Supervisor with preparing and bidding rental packages.
  • Assist in preparing all show operation paperwork, including line signal diagrams, startup/shutdown procedures, and running scripts.
  • Work alongside other production departments as it relates to installing speakers and microphones onstage, in props, in costumes, and/or in wigs.
  • Liaise with design teams and stage managers, as well as Production Department staff throughout the production process.
  • Reflect a commitment to the Geffen’s Mission and DEI Statement.

Skills & Background

  • Extensive knowledge of standard theatrical production practices.
  • Expert knowledge of theatrical sound systems, equipment, and practices.
  • Experience with line mixing.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience working in professional non-profit or commercial theater companies.
  • Programing and operation experience with the Yamaha Console Family required.
  • Proficient with Audinate DANTE networking and routing.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (or comparable productivity suite).
  • Working knowledge and experience with sound playback software, including QLab.
  • Capable experience in computer networking for theatrical applications.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be comfortable working on ladders and in personnel or scissor lifts at heights up to 30’.
