The Writers’ Colony is a Los Angeles-based screenwriting residency founded by award-winning writer, producer, and showrunner, Mara Brock Akil. We offer a place to write, a place to belong, and a place to find your voice for burgeoning underrepresented screenwriters.

Founded in 2021 by Brock Akil, The Writers’ Colony is housed in the West Adams neighborhood next to Brock Akil’s story27 Productions company and serves as a creative sanctuary. In addition to the 12-week residency program, we offer a month-long artist residency program for creative artists of any discipline, and public events connecting the community to industry professionals.

The Writers’ Colony mission is to shepherd a new generation of writers unafraid to tell the stories capturing their hearts.
