LaChanze

LaChanze is a Tony Award–winning actor, four-time Tony–winning producer, and advocate with over 40 years of experience on Broadway. She is thrilled to make her West Coast directorial debut with Wine in the Wilderness. While studying acting at Morgan State University and developing her directing skills, LaChanze discovered a deep connection to the work of Alice Childress. Over the course of her distinguished career, she has starred in several acclaimed Broadway productions, including The Color Purple (Tony Award), Once on This Island (Tony Award nomination), Summer: The Donna Summer Musical (Tony Award nomination), and Ms. Childress’s Trouble in Mind (Tony Award nomination). LaChanze received the AUDELCO Award for Best Direction of a Play for Classic Stage Company’s production of Wine in the Wilderness last spring, and she is honored to bring this powerful work to West Coast audiences.
