Sarna Lapine is a New York-based director. Upcoming productions include: the West End transfer of the acclaimed Broadway production Sunday in the Park with George, starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Annaleigh Ashford, as well as a radical revival of Irving Berlin’s Annie Get Your Gun (Pasadena Playhouse) and Puccini’s Madama Butterfly (Boston Lyric Opera). Recent credits include: the world premiere of Kate Hamill’s Dracula (Classic Stage Company) as well as Hamill’s Little Women (Primary Stages); The Rape of Lucretia (Boston Lyric Opera), named Best Opera of 2019 by the Boston Globe. Sarna has worked across North America and internationally. She directed Cynthia Erivo in her first concert in Japan, the Japanese premiere of Anna Ziegler’s Photograph 51 and re-mounted the touring production of the National Theatre’s War Horse, in Tokyo, after touring in North America for two years. Concerts include Sondheim on Sondheim at the Hollywood Bowl, staring Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Jonathan Groff, and Vanessa Williams. Sarna began as Bartlett Sher’s assistant director on Lincoln Center Theater’s Broadway productions of The Light in the Piazza, South Pacific, Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, and Awake and Sing! She holds an M.F.A. in Film from Columbia University
