Reopening Plans

Welcome back to Geffen Playhouse! The health, safety, and well-being of our patrons, artists, employees, and all Geffen visitors remain our top priorities, and we are so excited to welcome everyone back to our theater in the fall. Below you can learn more about what we’ve been working on behind-the-scenes to prepare for our reopening, as well as what’s changed from our previously announced season. You can read the full lineup of our newly reimagined 25th Anniversary Season here.

We can’t wait to have you join us, so we can all gather and once again celebrate the wonder, camaraderie and spirit of live theater. See you soon.

For the health, safety and well-being of our patrons, staff and artists, Geffen Playhouse’s current COVID-19 policy requires guests to be vaccinated. Upon arrival and prior to entering the building, all guests must present a photo ID along with proof that they meet the CDC definition of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19, either in the form of a physical vaccination card or a photo of the card.

Guests who are exempt from COVID-19 vaccinations due to medical reasons or sincerely held religious beliefs will be required to take a COVID-19 PCR test within 72 hours before entering the building and present their negative results at the door. Masks are currently required for all guests, regardless of vaccination status. At this time and until further notice, children under 12 years of age will not be admitted.

Geffen Playhouse is partnering with CLEAR to expedite the entry process with Health Pass. For those who are interested in speeding up their entry time into the theater, you'll be able to download a free app, easily register your vaccination, and show your health pass on your phone at the door. CLEAR is a trusted platform for 100+ partners across the country. Details about signing up for Clear's Geffen Playhouse Health Pass will be provided in August.

NOTE: This policy is subject to changes at any time, in accordance with fluctuating local, state and federal guidelines. Please check back for our current policy before your scheduled performance date.

Geffen Playhouse has been diligently working on significant renovations, improvements, and new protocols to ensure the comfort, well-being, and safety of our patrons, including:

  • Completing a systematic ventilation survey of all Geffen Playhouse areas to identify and upgrade any air balance deficiencies according to CDC guidelines.
  • Upgrading and deep cleaning HVAC system to improve filtration and clean outdoor-airflow, as well as replacing all filters with MERV-13 and HEPA filters to meet the CDC and ASHRAE guidelines.
  • Upgrading all bathrooms with completely touchless fixtures and faucets.
  • Construction and installation of new doors from the Marcia Israel-Curley Founders Room to the outdoor Audrey Skirball Kenis patio, allowing for more access to airflow. Construction has been designed/completed under the guidance of UCLA to preserve the historic architecture of the building.
  • Paperless ticketing and programs will be available to all patrons.
