Geffen Playhouse Board of Directors Forms Special Committee to Study Future Leadership of the Theater

Chairman of the Board Frank Mancuso Assumes Role of Interim Producing Director

LOS ANGELES, November 11, 2011 — In light of the recent passing of Geffen Playhouse founder and Producing Director Gil Cates, the Geffen Playhouse board convened a special executive session on November 10, 2011, during which the members formed a special committee. This committee will conduct a study and will ultimately provide insight in regards to future decisions about the theater’s executive structure and leadership.

In addition, the members of the board requested that current Chairman of the Board Frank Mancuso assume the role of interim producing director effective immediately.

“I am assuming this position to preserve the spirit, passion and unparalleled work that my dear friend Gil put into the Geffen Playhouse,” said Frank Mancuso. “It is an honor to help keep Gil’s vision alive while the committee works to discover the best leadership structure for the theater moving forward.”

The final order of business was to extend a seat on the board to film/television producer Gil Cates, Jr., the youngest son of Gil Cates, and to confirm him as the newest member of the Geffen Playhouse Board of Directors.
