Talk Back Tuesdays, Girls Night Out, Lounge Fridays and Wine Down Sundays Enhance the Run of Next Fall, This Fall
LOS ANGELES, November 1, 2011 — As Geoffrey Nauffts’ new play Next Fall makes its West Coast debut, the familiar Geffen Playhouse’s Signature Series returns to usher in the new work in style. The Signature Series for Next Fall offers one-of-a-kind special events at no additional cost and include:
Talk Back Tuesdays – November 8, 15, 22 and 29Talk Back Tuesdays give theater lovers with a thirst for deeper conversation a chance to discuss plot, character, themes or any other questions they might have directly with the artists themselves. This stimulating series includes pre-show beverages, compliments of Peet’s Coffee & Tea, as well as a chance to interact with the actors – and the occasional playwright or director – when they come out on stage after the show and take questions from the audience. These thought-provoking evenings are moderated by Geffen Playhouse Education Director Debra Pasquerette.
Girls Night Out – November 10Everyone knows that girls just wanna have fun, and this Signature Series was designed with that in mind; although of course, gentlemen are welcome to join as well. Grab friends, bring a date and turn your ordinary Thursday evening into a scintillating, one-of-a-kind night out. This post show party held at Palomino Restaurant & Bar in Westwood will feature a hosted bar and buffet with Gotta Have S'More desserts, our fun Girls Night Out photo booth and a Pixi Beauty take away gift at no additional cost. Plus get ready for some early holiday shopping with handmade, vintage and Mid-Century design-inspired jeweled wood ornaments from Midwest Maude and back by popular demand, the return of jewelry from the Cayetano Legacy Collection. This time they’ll be featuring never-before-seen statement necklaces from their fall collection, marked down 30-50% for Girls Night Out guests that evening only.
Lounge Fridays – November 18 and 25Cultural happy hour meets bon appétit in this enticing way to ease into your weekend. Unwind and enjoy delicious culinary delights provided by West Restaurant & Lounge, served pre-show in the Geffen's lobby from 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm with complimentary tray-passed champagne. Join in the fun and launch into your weekend with this festive pre-show series.
Wine Down Sundays – November 6, 13, 20, 27 and December 4Marvelous ambiance enhances the mood Sunday nights as you cap off your weekend with complimentary wine tastings courtesy of Martian Ranch and Vineyard from 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm in the Geffen’s lobby and classic sounds of Southern California from new media sponsor, 100.3 The Sound. For an extra special Wine Down Sunday on November 13, The Sound’s street team will spin classic tracks on vinyl for the evening.
With original director Sheryl Kaller and a completely new cast featuring the playwright himself in a leading role, Geoffrey Nauffts’ Next Fall chronicles the relationship of Adam, portrayed by Nauffts, and Luke, played by James Wolk. The couple seems like a case of opposites attract – Adam is older, neurotic and an atheist; Luke is impulsive, a struggling actor and a devout Christian. After Luke is involved in a critical accident, family and friends descend upon the couple and these longtime differences collide, forcing opposing views on faith into a stand-off. The rest of the cast includes: Academy Award nominee Lesley Ann Warren (Arlene), actor/advocate Jeff Fahey (Butch), Broadway actor and Geffen alum Ken Barnett (Brandon) and stage/screen actress Betsy Brandt (Holly). As timely as it is touching, this must-see play exposes the fundamental truth that we love people both because of – and in spite of – who they are.
Next Fall had its world premiere at Naked Angels Theater in New York in 2009 before transferring to the Helen Hayes Theater on Broadway in 2010. This West Coast premiere will allow both playwright and director to delve deeper into this still new work, which was awarded the Outer Critics Circle’s “John Gassner Award” in 2010 for Best New American Play and has been honored with nominations for the 2010 Tony Award for Best Play, the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Play and the Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding New Broadway Play.
