Brett J. Banakis is a designer for theater, opera, and live performance based in Brooklyn, NY. Brett is excited to continue his collaboration with David Kwong after developing The Enigmatist in New York City, and following that up with Inside the Box as part of the Geffen Stayhouse last season. In 2019, Brett made his Geffen Playhouse design debut with Mysterious Circumstances, which earned an Ovation Nomination for Best Set Design. Broadway: The Devil Wears Prada (upcoming), The Notebook (upcoming), The Cher Show (Neil Simon Theater). Recent NYC: The Unsinkable Molly Brown (Transport Group), An Officer and a Gentleman (Nat’l Tour), Sunday (Atlantic Theater Company), Ghost Light (LCT3). Additional Geffen Playhouse, as Assistant Set Designer: Wishful Drinking, A Picasso, You Can’t Take It With You, Paint Your Wagon, Speed-the-Plow, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, and Take Me Out. Brett currently serves as International Scenic Supervisor for all worldwide productions of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child (Broadway, West End, Melbourne, San Francisco, Hamburg, Toronto, Tokyo). Brett is a faculty member at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts.
